The Characters...

Wayne Warren: Played by James Moore
Co-owner of Markland Industries
Part multi-level marketer, part preacher, part redneck. Wayne has run Markland Industries for a few years and has made a few dollars, but only a few. Nevertheless, he’s certain he’s entitled to more. He’s also sure all he needs to do is “stay on guard and in charge,” remembering that real work is for suckers, hence insurance fraud. His preferred business look: Slicked hair, button-up denim shirt, and a sports coat with elbow patches. Boots are preferred, but high-tops will do.

Carl Maddicott: Played by Ace Masters
Co-owner of Markland Industries
Carl says all he wants a chance to do good, to help the underdog, to make a difference. Thus far, his life says otherwise. Excepting a failed attempt to enlist in the Marines and an unsuccessful effort to pay for a stripper’s education, it’s been a holding pattern: “Someday I’ll really help.” After the latest string of unsatisfying jobs (trucking, welding, and pet grooming), Carl found Wayne. Now he scrapes by, reminding himself that Markland really could make a difference, as he waits for the next racket. In the back of his head, he knows his story is about to wear out.

Daronda Combs: Played by Jennifer McCann
Secretary for Markland Industries
For too many years, Daronda has shopped at Wal-Mart knowing she was Dillards. While most men in Miami-Globe are below her, an ambitious one could be her ticket out. After she rebuffed Wayne one night at the Lazy-A Bar, Wayne offered her a job. Recognizing she had the upper hand (and that he had a business), she said yes. Now she keeps him at bay, but also close enough to keep him wanting. Some days, she actually does find Wayne charming.

Elwood Felix: Played by Desmond Baker
Client of Markland Industries
An unassuming, thank-God-for-the-food, and get-the-work-done kind of guy. He’s been pushed into a corner by impending layoffs.

Pancho: Played by Frank Jasso
Motel Manager/Maintenance Keeper
Pancho is gentle but appears but slow, perhaps even bordering on mentally handicapped. It seems that his enthusiasm will always outstretch his skill. Nevertheless, he has a talent for being in the right place at the right time to offer his help (and often annoy someone while doing it). Even if his assistance is rejected, Pancho always bounces back, ready to do a favor for someone who might need him.
